Best Adjustable Weight Bench

Best Adjustable Bench, December 2021

When it comes to creating your own home gym, you want to get the best bang for your buck with all of your equipment. As a person who has their own home gym, I know how expensive equipment can get, therefore I always want to be buying things that have multiple purposes.

The one piece of equipment that I see many people overlook when it comes to their home gym is an adjustable bench. You can have all the weights in the world, but you won’t be able to get a complete workout without one of these things in your home.

You might think, you can go to the store and buy just about any adjustable bench that you want. I wouldn’t recommend doing that, as you want something that you can count on in terms of durability and usability.

That’s why today, I’m going to be talking about some of the best adjustable weight benches out there for you to use with your home gym.

Before I start talking about the best adjustable weight bench, however, I first want to talk about the importance of having a bench in your home and what it can do for you. You’d be surprised at how many exercises you can do with a good bench.

What is An Adjustable Bench

An adjustable bench is exactly what it sounds like. It allows you to adjust the angle and position of it so you can fit in plenty of different exercises during your workout session.

There are a few key features that you should look for to ensure that you are getting the best adjustable weight bench. Here is a list of a few of them.

  • Incline
  • Decline
  • Weight Capacity
  • Portability
  • Durability
  • Material
  • Size

Believe it or not, all of these play a major role when trying to find the best adjustable weight bench. If your bench is lacking in even one of these departments, it is going to limit either the usage you can get out of it or the durability of the product.

Benches are also great because you can work out every body part with a good bench. Looking to exercise your chest, back, shoulders, arms, and legs?

Getting one of the best adjustable weight benches can definitely allow you to achieve that, all while not taking up too much room in your house.

Enough talking about benches however, it’s time for me to give you my recommendations on the best adjustable weight benches out there.

Best Adjustable Weight Benches

#1. REP Fitness AB-3000 FID Adjustable Bench - Best Overall Weight Bench

The one thing that surprised me with the REP AB-3000 FID adjustable bench is how great it was for how cheap it is ($269).

If you are looking for the best adjustable weight bench out there, this product might be a no-brainer for you.

There are 7 different positions to choose from with this bench and it does offer a decline, meaning you are going to be getting all the angles you could possibly want out of it (-20 degrees to 85 degrees).

Pros

  • Easy to move around
  • Easy to assemble
  • 7 positions to choose from
  • Excellent price

Cons

  • Would have liked the padding to be a little thicker

There are also leg hooks built into this bench so you can get in some good ab work with the AB-3000 FID.

It weighs 95lbs so you know you are going to be getting a sturdy bench as well with this thing. The AB-3000 FID Adjustable Bench also has wheels, making it an incredibly easy bench to move around.

As for the material on this bench, it’s fairly to sit on and it is durable as well. The padding is soft, but it’s not as thick as some of the other benches on this list.

The bench has been load tested for up to 1000lbs and personally, I don’t know anyone who comes close to exceeding that weight.

One of the last things I want to talk about with this bench is the size of it. It’s 17.5” high in a flat position, 54” long, and 26” wide. It’s not small by any means, but it’s not going to demand a lot of space either.

Using this bench, I can say that it is one of the best adjustable weight benches out there. The durability, portability, and features on this bench are unrivaled, especially when you factor in the price.

If you purchase this bench, it will be quite easy for you to assemble as well, as it comes pre-assembled for the most part. When it comes to choosing the best adjustable weight bench, I often pick the AB-3000 FID, and for good reason.

#2. REP Fitness AB-5200 FI Adjustable Bench - Best All-Around Bench

The AB-5200 is the upgraded version of the AB-3000 and while it has more features and is one of the best adjustable weight benches on the market, it also is one of the more expensive ones.

Coming in at $539, it might be a little outside of some people’s budgets, but if you can afford it, you are going to be getting a fantastic product.

The REP AB-5200 is built like an absolute monster and it is one of the strongest and most stable benches out there.

Pros

  • Fantastic build quality
  • Stores upright
  • Good padding
  • Durable and strong

Cons

  • No ability to decline
  • Pricier than the AB-3000

This is because the AB-5200 is made from 11-7 gauge steel and is backed with plywood as well. All of this steel and stability comes with a downside however, you aren’t able to decline with this bench.

That being said, you still have plenty of different positions to choose from and the build quality of the AB-5200 is like none other. It weighs a hefty 125lbs, but the two wheels on the bench make it quite easy for you to wheel it around your home and find the perfect spot for it.

The wheels aren’t even the best part when it comes to portability and storage within your home as well. This bench can be stored standing up, which makes it one of the best adjustable weight benches out there for those who are tight on storage space.

In terms of dimensions, it is slightly larger than the AB-3000 but not much bigger. It has a height of 17.5” when flat, a length of 55”, and a width of 20.5”. You should have no problem fitting it in your home and with how easy it is to store, it can be a great option if you want to move things around often.

The final thing I want to mention with this bench is the padding. The AB-3000 definitely left me wanting more in the padding department, and the AB-5200 fulfilled that need. This bench is comfortable to work on and is going to have the padding that you need.

This is definitely one of the best adjustable weight benches for its build quality and places at the number two slot only because it is more expensive than the AB-3000 and does not have a decline option.

#3. Rogue Adjustable Bench 2.0 - Best Bench for Durability

I know I talked a lot about how impressed I was with the AB-5200 build quality, but the Rogue Adjustable Bench 2.0 takes things to another level.

It is definitely the best adjustable weight bench when it comes to durability.

I love Rogue and they have always impressed me with their products, and this is just another one that I can add to the list.

It is a pricier bench coming in at $545 but it is definitely worth the price. It is made out of industry-standard 11-gauge so it is quite strong.

Pros

  • Strong and durable
  • Properly sized for competitions
  • Can be customized
  • Versatile and easy to move around

Cons

  • Cannot decline
  • Customization features do cost money
  • One of the more expensive benches on this list

The padding on this bench is also top-notch as well, so you are going to be getting a comfortable workout every time.

Another interesting thing to point out with the Rogue Adjustable Bench 2.0 is the customizability that it offers.

While it does cost extra money, you can equip this bench with a vertical storage bracket and you can also add spotter plates to it. This can allow you to get the exact bench that you are looking for.

In terms of size, this bench is 17.5” standing when flat, 54.5” long, and 11.25” in width. It’s a lot slimmer than the above benches, but I don’t mind that. It isn’t much longer than the other benches on this list, but if every inch counts, you might need to look elsewhere.

Overall, this is one of the best adjustable weight benches when it comes to durability and quality. It might be the most expensive bench on this list, but you are getting an absolute beast of a bench that is going to last you for years if you take good care of it.

#4. Titan Fitness Single Post Adjustable FID Bench - Best Bench for Beginners

If you are looking for the best adjustable weight bench and don’t care about competing as a lifter, the Titan Fitness Single Post Adjustable FID Bench might be the choice for you.

Coming in at $259.00 it is one of the cheaper benches on this list, but man does it contain a lot of different features.

Like the Rogue and AB-5200, the Titan is made from 11-gauge powder-coated black steel.

This bench is going to be strong, and it is going to look great in your home gym.

Pros

  • A large variety of positions
  • Ability to decline
  • Thick padding
  • Strong and well built
  • Great for beginners

Cons

  • Not as grippy as I would like
  • Is not regulated for competition

In terms of features, you are looking at 7 different positions for the backrest and 4 different seat positions so you can vary up your exercises quite frequently.

The Titan does have a decline feature too which I was impressed with considering the lower price. While this bench is fantastic, the Titan does have two shortcomings depending on the type of lifter that you are.

The first thing I want to talk about is the padding. The bench is incredibly comfortable and I was able to work out without any major discomfort.

The one issue? It’s not as grippy as most competitive benches out there, meaning you might slide around a little, especially when you are working with heavier weights.

The other thing is the height of the Titan. Coming in at a height of 18.25, the Titan exceeds competition regulations and therefore cannot be used. I mentioned that these are shortcomings, but they only are if you plan on competing seriously.

In terms of the rest of the sizing for the bench, the Titan is 56.75” in length and 25.25” in width. This is going to be a massive bench so make sure that you have the room in your home for it.

If you plan on just using this bench for a good workout, it is one of the best adjustable weight benches out there, especially for the price.

#5. Bowflex SelectTech 5.1S Stowable Bench - Best for Variety

Bowflex has been a household name for years now when it comes to home gym equipment and its benches have always been great.

In this case, I’m talking about the Bowflex Weight Bench Series in general, with a main focus on the Bowflex 5.1s Bench.

Looking at the Bowflex 5.1s Bench and all of their benches, they might be a little strange to look at at first.

That being said, they are incredibly versatile and the many different options mean that you are going to be getting the bench that you want.

Pros

  • A large number of positions available
  • Easy to store
  • Can easily find a bench that works for you within the series

Cons

  • Load capacity can be a little underwhelming
  • Would have liked a little more padding on it

With 6 different positions, you can get a decline of 20 degrees or an incline up to 90 degrees. I found it was a fairly comfortable bench to work out on but it wasn’t as great as some of the other options on this list.

While it is quite durable, I did not like that it only had a 600lbs capacity in terms of load. If you are planning on lifting heavy or are a heavier person yourself, you might find yourself limited by this type of bench.

When it comes to storage, this is an easy bench to store, however, it can be a little wide so make sure you have room in your home.

Overall, this is one of the best adjustable weight benches when it comes to variety, as the Bowflex Weight Bench Series has plenty of options to choose from.

#6. Ironmaster Super Bench Pro v2 Adjustable Bench - Best for Heavy Lifting

If you are looking for the best adjustable weight bench for heavy lifting, the Ironmaster Super Bench Pro is one you might want to consider.

It doesn’t look as elaborate as some of the other benches on this list, but what it lacks in visuals, it makes up for in extreme power and durability.

It is weight tested for up to 1000lbs but looking at this thing, I definitely believe it can handle a lot more.

With 11 different positions to choose from, you can also get this bench into just about any position you would want to during a workout.

Pros

  • Can support heavy loads
  • 11 different positions to choose from
  • Strong and durable

Cons

  • The length is shorter than most benches on this list. While it shouldn’t be an issue, for some tall people they might like it a little longer.

It is a smaller bench than most of the other options on this list, meaning it is going to be great for those who don’t have much room available in their home.

It comes in at a middle ground pricing of about $400, making it a great option for those who are looking for a study bench but don’t want to pay top dollar.

Overall, I’d say this is one of the best adjustable weight benches when it comes to weights and heavy lifting. You’ll definitely feel like a powerlifter when you sit on this thing and work out.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to deciding on a bench, it is up to you to determine in your opinion what the best adjustable weight bench is.
